Pattern Maker : is as its name implies, this filter gives
you the ability to create patterns from images that you created or imported.
*How it works: The pattern maker main job is to slice an image and
reassemble that image to create something called a pattern that can be used to
fill any selection you want on any image.
Before I explain how the pattern maker works, I want you
to make sure that you made a copy of the layer you want to generate a pattern
because it will be replaced by the generated pattern.
If you want to create a pattern using the pattern maker
follow these steps:
1. Make sure that the layer you want to make a pattern from is selected, and
if you want to use the image in the layer make sure that the layer is copied so
that you can use the image because the original image will be replaced by the
generated pattern as explained earlier.
2. Now go to the menu bar, select filter then choose pattern maker.
3. The pattern maker dialog box will open containing the layer you want to
generate the pattern from.
4. If you look at the right side of the screen you’ll see different options
that you can edit and set to get the desired result for the pattern you want to
generate, these options are the following:
* Tile generation: and that box contains the options that
you can edit to set the desired tile:
1. Use image size >> to use the image size in the tile generation process.
2. If you don’t want to use the image size you can set the size by entering
the height and width value in the boxes designed for that purpose, or you can
drag the sliders of the height and width to set the desired pattern size.
3. You can set the offset options by choosing one of the following options
: None, Horizontal, Vertical. Then you can set the amount of
the offset by entering the value (percentage) in the box or you can set it by
dragging the slider.
4. Smoothness value comes in three options 1,2, and 3, select the value you
think will give you the best result.
5. Sample detail: you can set the value of the sample between 3 - 21/pixels
by either entering the value in the box or by dragging the slider.
6. Tile boundaries: this gives you a colored border in the tile; you can
choose the desired color for the tile boundary from the color picker.
