To Duplicate a layer, simply do the following:
1. right click on the layers name
2. choose Duplicate Layer from the menu
3. A pop-up menu will appear that you can fill within it a new name and
properties.
4. If you choose to keep the default name chosen by Photoshop, this would add
"Copy" to the original name.
5. An exact copy of the layer will be placed above the original layer.
Grouping Layers:
To group layers together, simply do the following steps:
1. click the Create new group icon at the bottom of the layer palette.
2. This would open a new group that by double clicking on it's icon, you can
change it's name and it's tag color.
3. After creating the group, you can drag and release the layers that you want
them to be inside the group folder
4. Grouping is only for organizing purposes.
5. You can lock a group of link it's content.
Locking Layers: To lock layers together, simply do the following steps:
1. Select the layer. Or you can select multiple layers by holding the shift key and
clicking on the layers that you want.
2. You have Four locking options in the palette layer:
3. Lock Transparent pixels : This
would lock any surrounding area in the layer (that is not filled with anything =
Transparent)
4. Lock image pixels : This locks the
image pixels, so you can't draw over them or edit them.
5. Lock Position : This would lock the
layer in place.
