Brushes Palette


In Adobe Photoshop if you want to select preset brushes or design your own custom brush you need to open the (brush palette), by default the brushes palette is placed with the other palettes on the right side of your Photoshop screen, if you can't find the palette go to the menu bar, select window then choose brushes or you can use the keyboard shortcut (F5).

If you look at the brushes you'll find the following:
1. Brush presets:
this will show you the default brushes that you can use, of course you can add other types of brushes, I will explain that later in the chapter.
2. Brush tip shape: here you can edit the setting of the brush >> the editable setting are:

  1. Diameter.
  2. Flip (X) Flip (Y).
  3. Angle.
  4. Roundness.
  5. Hardness.
  6. Spacing.

3. Shape Dynamics: and it contain the following options that you can view when you double click on “Shape Dynamic”. You can drag the slider of each option or enter the values you want in the boxes next to each option. These editable options are
a.      Size jitter.
b.      Control: it contains the following options: 1. Off.  2.Fade. 3. Pen pressure. 4. Pen Tilt. 5. Stylus wheel. You can enter the value of each option in the box designed for that.
c.       Minimum diameter.
d.      Tilt scale: that option will open if you selected pen tilt from control.
e.       Angle jitter.
f.       Control: and it contains the following options: Off.  Fade. Pen pressure. Pen Tilt. Stylus wheel. Rotation.  And you can enter the value of each option in the box designed for that.
g.      Minimum roundness.
h.      Flip X and Y jitter.

 

4.      Scattering: here can set the options of how you want your scatter brush looks like. It contains the following options that you can edit by either entering the values in the boxes next to each option or by dragging the slider; you can view the options by double clicking on (scattering), these options are:
a.      Scatter: you can select if you want to scatter both axes, and set the value.
b.      Control: it contains the following options:  Off. Fade. Pen pressure. Pen Tilt. Stylus wheel. Rotation. And you can enter the value of each option in the box designed for that.
c.       Count.
d.      Count jitter.
e.       Control: and it contains the following options: Off. Fade. Pen pressure. Pen Tilt. Stylus wheel. Rotation. And you can enter the value of each option in the box designed for that.

5.      Texture: here you can adjust the texture options; these options are:
a.      Texture picker and the ability to invert the texture comes fiest in the texture dialog box.
b.      Scale.
c.       Texture each tip or not.
d.      Mode: the modes available for texture options are: Multiply. Subtract. Darken. Overlay. Color Dodge. Color burn. Linear burn. Hard mix.
e.       Depth.
f.       Minimum depth.
g.      Depth jitter.
h.      Control: and it contains the following options: Off. Fade. Pen pressure. Pen tilt. Stylus wheel. Rotation. And you can enter the value of each option in the box designed for that.

 

6.      Dual brush: this command will give you the ability to create a dual brush by using two tips. It works by setting the options of primary tip in the brush tip shape part inside the brushes palette the dual brush dialog box contains the following editable options:
1.                Diameter.
2.                Spacing.
3.                Scatter: you can choose if you want to scatter both axes or not.
4.                Count.

7.      Color Dynamics: this command will give you the ability of how colors change during painting according to the foreground and background color. The color dynamic dialog box contain the following editable options:
a.      Foreground/Background jitter.
b.      Control: and it contains the following options: Off. Fade. Pen pressure. Pen tilt. Stylus wheel. Rotation. You can enter the value of each option in the box designed for that purpose.
c.       Hue jitter.
d.      Saturation jitter.
e.       Brightness jitter.
f.       Purity.

8.      Other Dynamics: it gives you the ability to adjust the dynamics of the paint you want to use. The (other dynamics) dialog box contains the following editable options:
-  Opacity jitter.
Control: and it contains the following options, you can enter the value of each option in the box designed for that options are: Off. Fade. Pen pressure. Pen tilt. Stylus wheel.
- Flow jitter.
- Control: and it contains the following options, you can enter the value of each option in the box designed for that options are:
Off. Fade. Pen pressure. Pen tilt. Stylus wheel.

The following options are not editable, but you cant check or uncheck them to select any.
9.           
Noise.
10.        Wet edges.
11.        Air brush.
12.        Smoothing.
13.        Protect texture.
