Saving your work

Saving Your Work: In this part of the chapter I’m going to explain how you can save your work .
The most important part of working on a project is saving your work every time you feel like you added enough stuff , why?? Well you don’t want all your work to disappear because your computer crashed, or something went wrong with the electricity, so make sure that your work is saved with every step.

There are many ways to saving your work in Photoshop.
- Save As (Shift+Ctrl+S): Save as is the first step of saving your work on a specific place on your computer, when you feel that you want to make a location for your work on your computer to save all your work on, Go to File--> Save As

This will open a pop-up menu , it contains a browse option to locate the place you want to save your work in, a place to name your work, and a place to enter the format you want.

The formats available on Photoshop are the following:

Photoshop(*.PSD;*.PDD)

BMP(*.BMP;*.RLE;*.DIB)

CompuServe GIF(*.GIF)

Dicom (*.DCM;*DC3;*.DIC)

Photoshop EPS(*.EPS)

Photoshop DCS 1.0 (*.EPS)

Photoshop DCS 2.0 (*.EPS)

JPEG(*.JPG;*.JPEG;*.JPE)

Large Document Format(*.PSB)

PCX(*.PCX)

Photoshop PDF(*.PDF;*.PDP)

Photoshop Raw(*.RAW)

PICT File(*PCT;*.PICT)

Pixar(*.PXR)

PNG(*.PNG)

Portal Bit Map(*.PBM;*.PGM;*.PPM;*PNM;*.PFM;*.PAM)

Scitex CT(*.SCT)

Targa (*.TGA;*.VDA;*.ICB;*.VST)

TIFF(*.TIF;*.TIFF)

-So after saving your work on a specific location on your computer you’re good to go on with your work, but that’s not enough as I explained earlier, you don’t want to see your work disappear, so here comes the SAVE command for the rescue, all you have to do while working or after you finish working on a step on your project is to:
Go to File > SAVE or use the keyboard shortcut (CTRL+S)

This will save the latest update you added on your project on the exact same file that you created before by using the SAVE AS command, this way if anything wrong occurs, you’ll be on the safe side because you have a copy of your work.

Save for the Web:

Let’s say that you’re done working on a project for a web site, and you want to save your file to be uploaded on your servers, the save and save as doesn’t save the work to be uploaded on the net, there’s another way to do that,  all you have to do is to go to File-->Save for web and devices or use the Keyboard shortcut Alt+Shift+Ctrl+S. There you can save your work for the web with the resolution, format, quality …etc this will be explained in details in the slicing chapter.
