New Document

1. If you go to the menu bar in Photoshop CS3 and go over the File Menu as I explained earlier, a Sub-Menu will appear, that Sub-Menu contains a lot of Options that you can choose from, in this part of the tutorial I’m going to explain the NEW DOCUMENT option , what it does and what options you can find within it.

2. This will open another window that contains a lot of options to choose from to give you the page that you wish to work on.

3. The first option or box you find when you open this window is the Name Box , here you can enter the name of the document the way you want it to be saved, it helps by making the process of finding the document easier.

4. The second box you find under the Name Box is the Preset box , the preset box contains a ready chosen measurements for your page according to different standards, these measurements are the following: Clipboard, Default Photoshop Size, U.S Paper, International Paper, Photo, Web, Mobile & Devices, Film & Video, and Custom.

5. If you don’t want to choose any of these measurements and you want to set the page on the measurements you wish to use all you have to do is to enter values inside the Width and Height boxes , of course you need to take care of the unit you’re using for the values you’re entering, you have different measurement units that you can use from each box beside the Width and the Height boxes. Pixels, inches, cm, mm, points, picas, and columns.

6. Going down in the New Document Box, under the Height Box, you’ll find the Resolution Box , here you can enter the desired resolution you want the document to have by Pixels/inch or Pixels/cm.

7. The Desired color mode you want for your document comes next , you have different modes to choose from inside the color mode box, Bitmap, Gray Scale, RGB color, CMYK color, and Lab color.

8. You have the ability to choose what color the background of the new document has , White, Background color, or Transparent, you can find these options in the Background Contents Box.

9. If you click on the icon next to the advanced menu under the Background Contents, another menu will appear, this menu is called the advanced menu , here you have two boxes that contain different options which will help you creating the document that you desire.

- color profile : here you can choose the profile you want so that when another person views your project, it wont be damaged in any way, because the difference between the Device and Program may give unwanted results . Adobe gives users many options to choose from so that they can get the exact result they want.
